Coinbase

Add Coinbase to your product for your customers, and give your AI agents governed access to it.

Coinbase runs two different APIs from api.coinbase.com that do not share an authentication model: the v2 endpoints for accounts, transactions and addresses accept OAuth2 or a platform API key, while Advanced Trade under /api/v3/brokerage expects a JWT signed with an EC private key that is valid for only about two minutes, so tokens have to be minted per request rather than cached. Balances on the v2 accounts endpoint come back as decimal strings with per-asset precision, and parsing them as floating point is the classic source of reconciliation errors on assets with eighteen decimal places. Transaction history is paginated with an opaque cursor rather than page numbers, and ordering within an account is not stable once new activity lands, so an incremental sync should key on transaction IDs it has already seen. Coinbase Commerce is a separate product with its own API and its own key, so a merchant taking crypto payments is not reachable through the wallet endpoints at all. fastn holds each customer's credentials, mints the short-lived tokens per request and keeps read scopes separated from anything that could move funds.

In your product

Embedded for your customers. Per-tenant auth, no per-customer code, maintained by fastn.

Let a customer connect their own Coinbase account so balances and transaction history appear in your finance product

Pull transaction history into an accounting or tax workflow without asking the customer to export CSVs

Show per-asset balances alongside a customer's other accounts in a consolidated view

Detect incoming transfers to a customer's addresses so your system can mark an expected payment as received

For your AI agents

Governed, audited access for the agents you build, through the MCP server.

Ask an agent to summarise a customer's transaction history for a period using read-only scopes, with every call audited per tenant

Have an agent flag transactions above a threshold that have no matching record in the customer's ledger

Let an agent prepare a month-end balance snapshot for review, with no ability to initiate any transfer or trade

Example prompt

Can you list the transfers into our Coinbase account last month and total them by asset?

Set up Coinbase in 4 steps

  1. 01Enable the Coinbase connector from your fastn dashboard.
  2. 02Have each customer authorise their own Coinbase account, so calls run under their credentials rather than a shared key.
  3. 03Decide which orders, payments and customers your product needs, map those fields, then enable the actions and triggers you want.
  4. 04Call it from your product and expose it to your agents through the same governed connection.

Why teams use the Coinbase integration

What you get by embedding it with fastn instead of building it yourself.

  • Ship a Coinbase integration without building it. Your customers connect their own Coinbase account inside your product and work their orders, payments and customers there, with no per-customer code on your side.
  • Handle the part that actually costs time: money and order state must never be double-applied, and reconciliation has to be possible. fastn owns the auth, token refresh, rate limits, pagination and breaking-change fixes, so a Coinbase update is not your on-call problem.
  • One integration serves your product and your agents. The same governed Coinbase connection powers in-product features and gives AI agents scoped, audited access, so you keep commerce and payment records in step with your product without wiring it twice.

Coinbase integration FAQ

How do I add a Coinbase integration to my product?

Enable the Coinbase connector in your fastn dashboard, then let each customer authenticate their own Coinbase account. fastn handles the OAuth flow, token storage and refresh per tenant, so there is no Coinbase client code in your app and no per-customer branch in your codebase. Setup is 4 steps.

Do my customers each connect their own Coinbase account?

Yes. Every connection is scoped to the individual customer, so each authorises their own Coinbase account and only ever sees their own orders, payments and customers. That per-tenant isolation is the point of an embedded integration: you support the long tail of customer setups without maintaining an integration per customer.

Can AI agents use this Coinbase integration?

Yes. The same connection is exposed to your agents through the fastn MCP gateway, with permissions scoped per tenant and every call audited. Ask an agent to summarise a customer's transaction history for a period using read-only scopes, with every call audited per tenant

Who maintains the Coinbase integration?

fastn does. When Coinbase changes an endpoint, deprecates a field or alters its auth, the fix lands in the connector rather than in your backlog, and your customers' connections keep working.

Is the Coinbase integration safe for payment and order writes?

Writes are idempotent, so a retry cannot double-charge or duplicate an order, and every call is logged per tenant so a transaction can be reconciled against the event that triggered it.

Can my product react to a new order, payment or refund immediately?

Yes, through event triggers, so fulfilment, entitlement or accounting steps run as soon as the event lands rather than on a nightly sync.

What can I build with the Coinbase integration?

A common starting point: let a customer connect their own Coinbase account so balances and transaction history appear in your finance product. Teams also use it for the other use cases listed above, and expose it to agents for governed reads and writes.

How much does the Coinbase integration cost?

It is included. Pricing is based on connected accounts, not on how many connectors you enable, so adding Coinbase does not change your per-connector cost. You can start free with 3 connected accounts.
