Zenefits

Add Zenefits to your product for your customers, and give your AI agents governed access to it.

Zenefits was built as an all-in-one HR platform for small and mid-sized companies: employees, employment records, departments and locations in one place, with benefits enrolment, time off and payroll attached to them. The name is the thing to be careful about. TriNet acquired Zenefits in 2022, sold it for a while as TriNet Zenefits, and has since folded it into the TriNet HR Platform, so the brand is being retired even though the platform and its customers are not, and no vendor link is shown here for that reason. An embedded integration reads employees and their employment details, departments and locations, and time off, and reacts when somebody is hired, changes role or leaves, which is where nearly all the manual downstream work sits. Access rules on people data are tighter than almost anything else you will integrate, so map the fewest fields that make the feature work and let the audit log carry the rest. fastn keeps each company's credentials per tenant.

In your product

Embedded for your customers. Per-tenant auth, no per-customer code, maintained by fastn.

Let each customer connect their own Zenefits account so your product reads their roster without anybody exporting a report.

Read employees, departments and locations so your product reflects the organisation a customer genuinely has.

Pull time off so scheduling, capacity and approval steps know who is unavailable before anything is committed.

React to a hire, a role change or a departure, so downstream access and setup follow the event automatically.

For your AI agents

Governed, audited access for the agents you build, through the MCP server.

An agent answers who reports to whom and in which location, from the customer's own records.

An agent reports which teams changed size this month and what caused it.

An agent confirms which fields your product mapped, so it never implies access it does not have.

Set up Zenefits in 4 steps

  1. 01Enable the Zenefits connector in your fastn dashboard.
  2. 02Have each customer authorise their own company account, checking whether they are still on the Zenefits branding or the TriNet HR Platform.
  3. 03Map only the employee, department, location and time off fields your product needs, and leave payroll and benefits detail unmapped unless you use it.
  4. 04Call it from your product and expose the same connection to your agents through the MCP gateway.

Why teams use the Zenefits integration

What you get by embedding it with fastn instead of building it yourself.

  • Ship a Zenefits integration without building it. Your customers connect their own Zenefits account inside your product and work their employees, employment records and working time there, with no per-customer code on your side.
  • Handle the part that actually costs time: HR data is sensitive and its access rules are stricter than most systems. fastn owns the auth, token refresh, rate limits, pagination and breaking-change fixes, so a Zenefits update is not your on-call problem.
  • One integration serves your product and your agents. The same governed Zenefits connection powers in-product features and gives AI agents scoped, audited access, so you keep people data current without manual re-entry without wiring it twice.

Zenefits integration FAQ

How do I add a Zenefits integration to my product?

Enable the Zenefits connector in your fastn dashboard, then let each customer authenticate their own Zenefits account. fastn handles the OAuth flow, token storage and refresh per tenant, so there is no Zenefits client code in your app and no per-customer branch in your codebase. Setup is 4 steps.

Do my customers each connect their own Zenefits account?

Yes. Every connection is scoped to the individual customer, so each authorises their own Zenefits account and only ever sees their own employees, employment records and working time. That per-tenant isolation is the point of an embedded integration: you support the long tail of customer setups without maintaining an integration per customer.

Can AI agents use this Zenefits integration?

Yes. The same connection is exposed to your agents through the fastn MCP gateway, with permissions scoped per tenant and every call audited. An agent answers who reports to whom and in which location, from the customer's own records.

Who maintains the Zenefits integration?

fastn does. When Zenefits changes an endpoint, deprecates a field or alters its auth, the fix lands in the connector rather than in your backlog, and your customers' connections keep working.

How is sensitive Zenefits employee data handled?

Access is scoped per tenant and limited to the fields you map, credentials are encrypted, and every read and write is logged. You expose only what your product actually needs rather than the whole employee record.

Can joiner, mover and leaver changes be automated?

Yes. Where Zenefits is where a hire, a role change or a departure is recorded, that change can trigger downstream provisioning or removal across the customer's other connected systems. Where Zenefits sits downstream of the HR system of record, the same event can be pushed into it so its worker list, schedules and access stay in step, which is where most of the manual effort sits.

What can I build with the Zenefits integration?

A common starting point: let each customer connect their own Zenefits account so your product reads their roster without anybody exporting a report. Teams also use it for the other use cases listed above, and expose it to agents for governed reads and writes.

How much does the Zenefits integration cost?

It is included. Pricing is based on connected accounts, not on how many connectors you enable, so adding Zenefits does not change your per-connector cost. You can start free with 3 connected accounts.
